Kuopio is located in Eastern Finland in the middle of Finnish Lakeland and in the middle of nature, but still close to everything. Good transport connections by plane, train, bus or your own car enable easy arrival in Kuopio. On the other hand, it is quick to continue the journey from Kuopio to the Finnish capital Helsinki as well as to the well-known Lapland (looking from Southern Finland, Kuopio is located halfway to Lapland). The city of Kuopio is the core of North Savo province. 120,000 people live in Kuopio. Kuopio is a life-sized city where it is easy to find a balance between working, studying and leisure to create the perfect combination for your life. In Kuopio, you can live life at your own pace, in the middle of nature and the urban environment. The University of Eastern Finland (in pictue) is located next to the center of Kuopio, the university has 15,000 degree students (1000 international exchange and degree students every year). Teaching takes place in a student-centered way in modern learning environments. Meals for students are low priced. Of course, there is more to Kuopio than work and study, there are many opportunities for leisure time.

Tahko is an outdoor tourism area formed around Tahko (small mountain). So if you’re coming in the winter, don’t forget your snowboard. In summer, book a mountain bike or hiking equipment. On the other hand, you can just freshen up at a spa hotel or cottages while enjoying good restaurants with local food. It is about an hour by bus from Kuopio to Tahko. There are also a lot of activities in Kuopio. Are you an outdoor person or do you have a better time in an urban environment? Inland cruises, nature trails and the Puijo outdoor area are sure to offer something to experience for longer distances as well. Do you dare to climb the Puijo Tower to see the lovely scenery? (see picture, the tower is in it) In the center of Kuopio you will find award-winning restaurants (Kuopio and the province of North Savo is the first region in Finland to receive the European Region of Gastronomy Award), newly renovated museum and port area, theaters and.. Just ask what you need. Bring a friend, borrow an electric city bike Vilkku and head out to explore the city! And that Kuopio-based celebrity, “muikkukukko”. What or who it is, come find out.
